Because I ate the last of them.
So did everyone else survive?
We had a wonderful Christmas spent with great friends. I haven't made it "home" yet but I'm leaving sometime tomorrow. Do I have money to go home? Nope. But I'm going anyway. LOL. I'll be eating grilled cheeze sandwiches for a week. But I have lots of chocolate so that isn't too bad right?
Okay, back to Christmas. Christmas Eve we went to my friend Anne Marie's house who happens to be a tranplant from Boston. (She thinks she's lost her accent, and we let her think she has but she still sounds like she's from Southey...LOL) There were about 20 of us there, half of us being kids. We did some kind of grab Christmas gift thingy that was hysterical. Every one brings a grab and then once you pick a gift then if you don't like that gift you can steal someone elses. I had this great bag of coffee and needless to say I ended up with a Spiderman comic book and some tub crayons. (Gotta try those out)
Then Christmas morning we spent at home just with us. We wanted to have a Christmas with just family that morning. Later in the day we went back over to Ann Marie's for dinner. Ham, scalloped potato casserole, green bean casserole, cole slaw with raisins which was really good, and a bunch of other things that I can't remember now.
So all in all it was marvelous. Now, I'm getting ready to head down to Charleston to visit my parents. That should be fun. I'm hoping to score some goodies. (Not that I need any since quitting smoking again--no gum anymore even)
I'm currently reading a really lovely book so far called "The Book of Lost Things" written by John Connolly. I must have a thing for Irish writers these days because I keep seeming to run into them without really meaning to do so. By the way, hello to Orla if she is out there in cyber space. I'm still waiting for the Light Bearer's Daughter to make it to my B&N. Any way. I'm very intrigued with this book, even though I have just started it. It's promising. My favorite quote so far.
"Stories were different though: they came alive in the telling. Without a human voice to read them aloud, or a pair of wide eyes following them by flashlight beneath a blanket, they had no real existence in our world. They were like seeds in the beak of a bird, waiting to fall to earth, or the notes of a song laid out on a sheet, yearning for an instrument to bring their music into being. They lay dormant, hoping for the chance to emerge. Once someone started to read them, they could begin to change. They could take root in the imagination, and transform the reader. Stories wanted to be read, David's mother would whisper. They needed it. It was the reason they forced themselves from their world into ours. They wanted us to give them life."

(Hope I'm not breaking a copyright by posting. If I am somebody tell me and I'll take it down. But I just thought his words were so beautiful that everyone should read them and this book.)
I did read "Dark Fever" by Karen Marie Moning. And while I am a lover of her books, I'm not sure about this one. I hate when people try to pigeon hole writers but this book is SO different than her other books that it took me some getting used to. It is written in first person and sometimes that is hard for me to get into. There is so much left unresolved in this first book that it kind of confuses me. I'll read the next one and see what happens there.
After I finish The Book of Lost Things I'll be moving on to Cornelia Funke's "Inkheart" which looks to be a lot of fun.
Hugs,
Michelle

This is the picture that my daughter painted for me. She is eleven. I think she did pretty good. She gave it to me as an early Christmas present. She and her grandparents framed it for me. I just love it! Sorry the picture is crooked but I was standing to the side when I took it. Oh, and the flash is a bit of a problem too..but you get the general idea

I can't bomb them, kill them, comet them, borax them, bait them, or otherwise pray them away. They still keep coming back. Even the Orkin man is befuzzeled by their behavior. I think our neighborhood has bred some kind of super mutant can't kill'em ant species. Hey are there any ant scientists that want to come to my house and try your hand at getting rid of these puppies? I've about given up. I even put out those yard stakes too, and they are covered with ants. How many flipping ants are out there?
I'm sure it's the cold. It's currently 27'F outside and they it will get to about 12 tonight. They are loooking for warmth and they just happened to find Meghan's donuts. (I told her to put them in the frig but does anyone in this house listen to me? No. That is correct. I'm the resident moron who knows nothing. It's okay, I'm used to it.)(Secretly I'm laughing my ass off because my chocolate stash is safely tucked away in the freezer which is where I put everything important. Except for my bra, that would be taking it a bit too far--maybe)
Anyway, after a day of shopping. Yeah me, can you sense the sarcasm in my voice? Shopping is not my favorite thing to do, especially during Season X. People get crazy during Season X. Why? They are in some kind of all fired hurry all of a sudden. I don't get it. Well, I do get it and understand it to some degree, but look here, I am not the one who cut you off on the freeway or took the last goober doll that you just had to get your child. That WAS NOT ME. So please, show some constraint here folks and remember what Season X is about. It's about caring and showing compassion for your fellow man/woman. Right? It's easy to forget when you get caught up in the hustle and bustle and those little bells are ringing in the department stores. (Do those bother anyone else but me? Ding. Ding. Ding????? What the heck is that all about? Don't you people have cell phones or two way radio's or something? Yeesh!)
Personally, I've had a heck of a week. First I get a registered letter from the DMV telling me that two years ago I didn't pay my property taxes on my new car? And that they are going to garnish my checking account for the funds. WTF????? Here in the lovely state of NC you CANNOT get your tags unless you pay your property taxes and your flipping insurance so just because they got a computer glitch and now cannot find where I paid my taxes on said car all of a sudden that means I didn't pay? Get real here folks. I finally found my cancelled check and faxed it over to the tax office. Can I get anyone to call me back? No. Can I even leave a message? No. Yeah, Merry Christmas to me. Finally after six hours of being on hold I'm told that I'll get a refund for what they still plan to take out of my account because, you know, they can't stop the old cog from turning on such short notice. Ugh!!!! I might see that two hundred bucks by 2007. What do I need a car for anyway?
But besides that and several other lovely diseaster type situations (the ants excluded, because they have been a problem off and on for the last two months) I'm planning on having a Merry Season X.

Ah, December. Don't we all love December?
I have made a decision to downsize my gift giving this year. I've read a few blogs where people are deciding to do this, and I do think it is important to remember 'what' we are celebrating.
My daughter and I are making a lot of gifts this year. Some small, some big, but all made with love. I think these types of gifts mean so much more when you've actually taken the time and effort to make them. Of course, some gifts will have to bought because I'm not that good of a seamstress. (to my grandmother's horror I'm sure)
I got one of my Christmas gifts early this year. My daughter did an amazing painting for me when she was at mother's this summer. They have matted and framed it. I love it. I'll have to take a picture of it and post it. It is those types of things that I love. Very intimate and personal. Only that person could have done that.
Cool stuff.
Hope everyone is having a great December so far. It's cold, cold, cold here in North Carolina. Finally...

This song has really gotten me into a lot of fights and now I have to own up to the fact that I was wrong and it was not sung by Gordon Lightfoot like I thought. Drat it. It was sung by a group called "The Looking Glass" if anyone is really interested. Okay, Dad, I owe you one bottle of really good white wine of your choosing.
However, Gordon Lightfoot did sing
A)The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
B)If You Could Read My Mind
C)Sundown
Ha! I WAS right on all those. He he he he...
And I'm listening to "If You Could Read My Mind" right now. God, I loved that song, even from way back when.
And who doesn't love music trivia eh?

I did not create this, but found it on You Tube. Hope you enjoy. While the song is getting lots of air play--this particular video, in the states is not. I like the European version so much better.
Enjoy.
